Yes I have heard about them. Time will tell how they do as the front row for Chinnor has been pretty solid for the past couple of seasons.

No chance of that I can tell you for certain. Jerry our Finance man has a tighter hold on expenses than my wife!

I'm supposed to be heading back to Bridgwater at the end of October and haven't spoken to anyone from Barnstaple, other than my old mate Jason Slade when he was in Christchurch a few weeks back. I'll be looking for a job when I get back and am probably going to have to move for it so I really don't know where I'll be playing in the long term.

Second pre season friendly tomorrow, against a strong looking Plymouth Albion side and Nuneaton, which should be very interesting, see how the side has progressed.

Shame the kick offs don't start until 5pm, because of some friendly on the TV. Last match doesn't kick off until 6.40 at the earliest!

Any other preseason games for anybody tomorrow, I am looking forward to some live rugby that's for sure.

Barnstaple put in a very organised defensive effort against Plymouth Albion for forty minutes yesterday and capped it with a try at the end to lose 12-7. Pack is looking very good, if our kicking game was a bit better we might have put them under more pressure!

How did Nuneaton look? We play them next week...

(BTW was it Plymouth Albion mixture or Plymouth Warriors?)

I only saw about half of plymouth vs Nuneaton, and whilst Nuneaton lost 15-0, they were trying hard, and defending well, looked like a very strong fullback and organised up front, am waiting to hear how Barnstaple did against them.

The Plymouth team was a real mish mash, 3 or 4 of the back line would probably think of themselves first team, but the pack possibly not, but still very strong as you would expect for a championship team.

Getting excited about seeing some rugby tomorrow at Rackerhayes. Should be an interesting gauge of where the team is for the coming season and an opportunity to see the new faces.

Launceston should be too strong you would have thought, reading in to last weeks scores with Exmouth/Pontypool, and of course that they are a higher league side, but still a good test for the lads.

Just as important, a chance for me to get out the house and have a few beers!

Well there doesn't seem to have been a lot of interest on here about the pre season games!

It was a decent effort against Launceston on Saturday, especially with a makeshift front row. I was very impressed with the new signings, especially Mortimore and Newman. Avery threw in very well and the lineout looked very secure. Special mention must also go to young Josh Smith who put on an excellent display and looks to have a big year ahead of him.

A young fly half finished the game and it is hoped he will get on board too judging on what was said afterwards and he looked a very useful player, I think he is called Meakin?

Plenty of beer has diluted the memory but it was a pretty even game until half time.

What happened at Barnstaple then, surprise result?

I can't explain to be honest, started well, set piece good enough and defended well just no verve in attack. They scored the winning try from a lucky bounce but that shouldn't take anything away from them, we weren't good enough but it is only pre season so it doesn't matter right?

Well I will agree that pre season scorelines aren't the be all and end all but you would be expecting to beat a team from the league below and winning is good for confidence. Have they strengthened much because they weren't pushing promotion last season?

Guess you will have to put it down as one of those days then!

Who have you got this weekend?

Bideford away, boxing day fixture was called off last season, so we agreed to move it to a pre season friendly, in theory not a huge test, but from a local rivalry point of view always interesting.

With regard to Avonmouth, I think they are very much looking for promotion this year.

Are you playing anymore preseason friendlies? Very little information on other club friendlies out there, Redingensians lost to Henley, I have found, but not a lot else!

I don't know if you look at the N2S forum much, but nobody is giving Hartpury much notice, and they beat N1 side Stourbridge at the weekend! I think most sides are not aware of what Hartpury will do!

Redingensians are playing Broadstreet at the weekend...both finished 5th in the respective league so a good idea can be gained on how each side will be set up and their prospects for the coming season.

Presumably just a result of ignorance - of the non-offensive kind.

I cannot make myself think they will be up to the standard of Luffbra when they first came into this level but who knows.

Doubt they will struggle though.

As a secondary Gloucester Academy and the resources to go out and get a new coach in the form of Darren Morris when there scrum was creaking last year, I think they will surprise a lot of teams.

But equally there a lot of strong teams in N2S this year!

Not if you're going to wade in with this sort of controversial stuff, FJ!

Does look to be shaping up for a good league, I agree (but with attitude). LOL
