It has been a bonkers season for us. Competing with and beating some of the top sides but unable to put away the strugglers. Some rethinking due at our end methinks.

It's been an interesting season as an observer of Sandbach. For me the signs were obvious heading into preseason that they'd struggle this year. I think a big factor in that is that it's seemingly taken a while to understand where the truth strength of the side in, with a very well drilled pack capable of causing problems rather than in the backs as it has been in years gone by.

I don't think the 'shirt lottery' in the back line has helped either, there are times when the backline has been composed entirely of players playing out of position which hasn't helped. Obviously strength in depth is something that needs rectifying ASAP.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the coaching staff with Scott Barrow heading off to Leeds. One might argue that having the head of rugby at the local school as head coach is a plus point, but one does wonder if it creates issues with focus being split across two teams as it were. Personally, I'd look to take a new Head Coach on (although the likes of Waterloo and Stoke have shown us the pitfalls there.)

The big question of course is how many players can be retained,  which has been the biggest hurdle Bach have had for years. One would assume both promising young props will be off to pastures new next year.
The notional 'Sandbach Old Boys XV' sadly gets stronger each year!

That 373, is part of being Sandbach. Strictly amateur and relying on our fantastic MJ section to produce talent we are always going to find it hard competing with the Nuns and B/streets of this level. Each year we reinvent ourselves and try to play attractive rugby. Three seasons ago our backline was probably the best in the league, but we couldn't win enough ball. It doesn't take much to change things though as players relocate to advance their personal or playing career.

Who knows what next season will bring, but whatever it won't change our ethos. Watch out for a young 9/10, a prop and a back row from our colts who will make a mark next season.

I guess we've always had lads move on to better things and the Premiership, Championship and higher leagues are dotted with lads who learned the game at Bradwall Road and Sandbach School. No problem with guys moving on to test themselves at a higher level, 'twas always thus. Sometimes we forget however, how many players we actually retain. We rarely lose a player to other sides at our level. I guess much of this is due to the investment in the infrastructure and the fact that the vast majority of players come up through the ranks and so see Sandbach as their club.

I think Level 5 is right for us but it is becoming more and more competitive and our thinking and approach needs to move forward accordingly.

A trip to Sandbach has always been a highlight so I wish you the very best of luck next season. Outscoring you 6 tries to 3 was a surprise and not winning was our own fault. Having said that you will need to be able to close those sorts of games out next year. Big surprise to see you becoming a forward orientated side but as we learned this is the way forward in this league so good luck!

Hip flasks or hot water bottles ?

I know PEN 1S is a sterner built chap, but that hip flask when it came out of the inside pocket I did wonder if it was a sport billy coat ! I heard many a lady shouted ..... Look at the size of that, as he opens his coat

Camquin, can you enlighten me, why "
I am not sure it has been confirmed, but it is what the regulations set out will happen.
One fewer relegation at all levels.

None down from Championship.
Two down from National 1
5 down from National 2
11 down from National 3"

If this is to do with the demise of London Welsh, then surely non down from Championships and two down from National 1 would mean that we are all square and no further reductions in relegation or promotions are necessary.

But there are three clubs to be promoted from National 2 to National 1. So if three go up, and only two come down, then National 2 is one club short. The whole process has to be carried out throughout the National Leagues.
