Full time here at Dillingham Park a good game although Ian unhappy on some elements of the game not from either side though so work that one out.

A's pack was all conquering and deserved the win

Sedge worked hard and were denied more

Well done A's have a great night

A's 27 (5) Sedge 8 (0)

All the best

A quick review of Ampthill and District game HERE

Good to meet up with a certain Irishman, a man after my own heart. Sorry for not roaming around the club to meet up with others but had to warm up after the game

I hope ST did a thorough head count, perhaps he just asked the girls on the gate, but 134 sounds about right for a dreichit day we rarely get more than 300, Ampthill is hardly a metropolis, it isn't gate money which is funding our success.

Any way here is the Ampthill take on it, sounds like a much changed side, whether that is due to the holidays, illness, injuries or the wrath of the DoR who knows.

I wonder if ST did a search for Tongans, I'd be interested to know if they were pitch side as normal

Ampthill welcomed Sedgley Park for their first ever visit to Dillingham Park on a miserable, drizzly afternoon following heavy through the day rain, however, the new pitches again showed their worth being in good condition. Amp's much changed squad had 5 changes in the pack, 3 in the backs and 4 on the bench. 20 year old William Goodge made his 1stXV debut at centre while flanker Joshua Walker made his from the bench.

With so many changes following the defeat at Leicester Lions it was perhaps not surprising that A's looked disjointed in the first half, especially given the aggressive and physical opposition while the second half performance was much improved with more cohesion but it wasn't a day for backs flair.

The hosts took the lead in the 13th minute when fly half Joseph Tarrant kicked a straight forward penalty goal after the visitors were penalised at a breakdown. More usually a hooker but this week playing at loose head prop, Alexander Bloisi increased the home side's lead on 17 minutes as Sedgley failed to stop a catch & drive with Tarrant adding the extras from the touchline. The visitors then opened their account in the 26th minute with a penalty goal after Ampthill were deemed offside in midfield.

The remainder of the half saw Amps on the attack but stout defence from Park and poor finishing from A's left the scoreboard team untroubled. One two minute set saw the home side camped for 15 phases in the Sedgley red zone but were eventually held up, only to knock on from the resulting 5m scrum.

The hosts stepped up a gear at the beginning of the second period, ball was faster as breakdowns were being cleared more effectively while Sedgley began to incur the displeasure of the referee.

On 49 minutes a second catch & drive saw open side flanker Joseph Bercis score his 16th try of the season followed in the 61st minute by his 17th after another similar lineout & maul, both trys going unconverted. With the visitors unable to field a qualified front row after injury & a yellow card, uncontested scrums saw them produce their best period of the game with offloading and great support play eventually culminating in a 78th minute unconverted try for their left wing. The hosts weren't finished however and with the last play of the game centre Goodge crowned an improving debut with a try to the right of the posts to secure the bonus point scored despite the presence of three defenders and a three man overlap outside.

At training the coaching team had asked for a response from the squad, they got a bonus point win against very physical opposition and produced a strong defensive display.

Director of Rugby Mark Lavery commented "A much improved defensive performance over the previous two games and for Will Goodge to score the bonus try on debut was great for him."

Baggins

I might be sad but to count the gate that would be strange, the info came off the match day card produced by the host clubs fourth official signed off by both clubs officials. I state this as I think you or someone wondered where statbunker gets all their match statistics from and it is this RFU/NCA match day card.

Plenty of Tongans on and off the pitch I think. It was a pity I did not have much time to enjoy the great hospitality we received today it was warm and well received on a cold day. Not my place to wonder who funds what at Ampthill but I get the feeling the club know the need to get over hurdles to improve the general facilities at the club.

It was a good day out and my I add the best of luck with the rest of your season

All the best

Ma'asi (influential) & Hehea played the whole game, Molitka was present on the sidelines.

There were 12 changes to the 20 man squad that played against Lions, a couple were positional but most, I suggest, were in response to the Lions performance.

A team performance with much better defence than in recent weeks saw off a committed and skillful Sedgley side who were also outstanding defensively.

Though the referee's decisions weren't always agreed with by the spectators I've rarely seen a fitter one, he was up with play for every big decision, even kick & chase scenarios.

Good to see more mini & youth graduates getting their chance at 1stXV level.

Hats off to Hull for a determined and passionate performance against a Chester team clearly lacking in, amongst other things, confidence. A great break from Will Goodwin in the first couple of minutes to put CRUFC ahead but 3 tries from Hull took them to. 20:12 half time lead. Despite hardly winning any of their own line out throws in the second half, Hull conjured up a victory courtesy of a delightful cross field kick from their 10 which was offloaded to the impressive and quick 7 who outpaced Chester's back 3 to score.
Chester lacked a cutting edge in midfield and looked short of pace out wide.
Someone also has a winning raffle ticket in their pocket.............probably too late now.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find statements like that slightly disconcerting?
