Selected - does that mean they accepted the switch Mike? Sorry to be asking such a question but I'm not in the communication loop. If it's TRUE it's a pity for me cos games like Port v Wilmslow were the ones I'd come up for.

Mal, don’t know sorry.

We'd been rumoured to be "in the frame" for the move, allegedly.
Going back to visit our good friends at Percy Park and Bradford & Bingley would have been enjoyable though.
However, I received a note from my Chairman today saying that we had been spared and that Stockport had been selected - his words.
I had heard they were going to volunteer.

Don't know why, but doesn't feel like a natural fit for me, but what do I know. Don't suppose it fits anyone TBH, maybe the several west Yorkshire sides might make more sense logistically. Good luck to port if they take it up.

It was on the cards according to the RFU regulations regarding level transfer. There were 4 clubs with so called 'Identical Mileage' to the teams in North 1 East. These were Altrincham Kersal, Burnage, Broughton Park and Stockport.

To decide between these 4 it goes on the Mileage to the teams in their home league North 1 West. The clubs with the least mileage stay in North 1 West and the club with the highest mileage is level transferred.

If you want the gory details they are in this Google Spreadsheet.

Still a number of long trips for Port with potential complications associated with the weather.

Looking at N1W the obvious elephant in the room is Douglas IoM - I'm not suggesting that they shouldn't feature but is it about time we re-assessed the leagues otherwise we are in danger of imposing costs on certain clubs?

Hi Mal,
We've been trying to reassess the leagues for several years now and have gone through a re-structure review this season with the imposition of a new league structure.

Is there any news on the restructuring of the leagues at level 7 and below in the NW as many clubs are waiting to see if they are staying in the Lancashire leagues or coming back into the RFU leagues , other clubs are considering leaving the leagues and going into the Lancashire leagues or NOWIRUL leagues and to make it more complicated some clubs 2nd XV are applying to join the RFU leagues . This need to be resolved ASAP to enable clubs to plan for the coming season.

Every season there seems to be some delay in getting the North fixtures out and I suspect that this season will be no different. The NOWIRUL leagues can't start their fixtures until they get all the RFU and Lancashire league fixtures. All the Midlands leagues are already out except Midlands Premier.

The Lancs / Cheshire appeal against the process of the review was dismissed last night and so the league structure Option X will be put in place. However, with this news who knows if other clubs will jump the RFU ship as a consequence.

Apparently the fixture hold up is due to level transfer at level 5. There are 17 clubs in the North Premier when they are all returned to their CB affiliations. 13 in Midlands Premier, 13 London & SE Premier and 13 in South & South West Premier.

It seems that 1 club goes from Midlands to South & South West, 1 club goes from Midlands to London & South East and 3 clubs go from the North to the Midlands.

Bromsgrove seem to have been the chosen club to go from Midlands to South & South West. There is some resistance to this.

I suspect that the 3 clubs moving from the North to the Midlands will welcome the prospect. Their travelling will probably be less.

I believe Stockport volunteered for the transfer. I was told as they spend more than allowed on the new declaration of players fresh-hold that they would not be entitled for RFU travel expenses. I believe they thought the cost of flights to Douglas alone would cost as much as all the coach travel to the midlands.

 This could explain the delay.

Interestingly, if a non RFU financially supported club are enforced transfer it could bankrupt a club.

Stockport going to North1(East) from N1West has nothing to do with the issues at Level 5. Bedford have agreed their transfer to L&SE Prem bringing them upto 14 clubs. There are usually several clubs from the North happy to switch to the Midlands (Donny Phoenix, Sandbach & Sheffield were all there last season plus Macclesfield may fancy a shot this time around)
The issue is with Bromsgrove's level transfer to SW Prem - They have appealed and been supported by the MLOC (To my knowledge an appeal has never been upheld previously at any level so this may be academic but causes the inevitable delay)
The other issue in the Midlands, as yet unverified, is that Birmingham & Solihull have lost all their players since their statement about non-payment of players and South Leicester are also rumoured to be in similar trouble so there is a question over whether these two clubs will be able to fulfil their fixtures at Level 5 - the possibility is that both may have to start again at the bottom of the pyramid as re-constituted strictly amateur clubs
If anyone has info about these two clubs please share with us all!

I think they would have been Level Transferred to North 1 East anyway under the Level Transfer regulations.

Assuming I have read the regulations correctly.
If a club drops out by the end of the  week, the RFU has to rejig the leagues.
Butif they do so after June 1 I believe the leagues go ahead with fewer teams and bye weeks and we sort it out next season.

Except in the Championship. If a championship club were to fold after this week but before August 1, the botto club (Richmond) are not relegated and Nat 1 goes ahead one light.

It is all fun.

I would not book your travel yet.

Meanwhile, the Lancashire League Clubs sit back calmly and watch what happens.

They must be delighted with the decision they made 12 months ago.

I wonder who will be next to jump ship............?

You mean the teams that were never anywhere near the level where this affected them? Who cares.
