Being relatively new to this Forum, there seems to be a general lack of coverage of the comings and goings of the season so far What are peoples thoughts on the season so far?

You obviously haven't seen the multitude of 'educated views' on the Waterloo thread. If you're brave enough to venture on there you may possibly lose the will to live!!

Thought it would be good to get other people involved rather than hijack that specific thread. After all there are more than those teams involved.

Looks a wide open league to me with most teams capable of beating each other on their day.
At this stage, Carlisle look to be the team to beat for automatic promotion, but its a case of 'take your pick' for the play-off spot. Two or three wins - or even a couple of shock defeats - could make such a difference to both the top and bottom of the division and it will be interesting to see how the league stands at Christmas before making any rash predictions. Now, where's my crystal ball?!!!

Former Burnage player (colts, 1st XV and eventually Vets), long standing member and former President.
I think it would be fair to say that the standard of rugby in this league has improved over the years. It also seems that the step up to what was National Three looks to have become a little more difficult, where last year's run-away success story have struggled to maintain their form. Likewise, De La Salle and Anselmians seem to have had trouble adjusting to North One West. Having seen both clubs play, it seems a little odd. In my humble opinion they seem to have the players and neither side gave up, still pushing hard at 80 minutes. We're up at Penrith this weekend and I'm looking forward to their legendary hospitality. |

The standout result in Nat 3 Premier last week was bottom club Vale of Lune beating Joint leaders Billingham.
Every predictor had them down for a 5-0 loss. So maybe they have taken time to bed in and have now found their Mojo. They were 19-0 up on Sandal the week before. Maybe the step up requires a greater fitness. |

Mike bit understated there, you might be 3rd from bottom but if results went your way you could be 5th by the end of Saturday ! Carlisle the team to beat, Dela and Anselms have too much to do to stay up..... Kersal got relegated last season with 8 wins!

Well we went to Carlisle and lost by one point in a 71 point thriller, it's difficult to reconcile that it's same group of lads (although we've lost two props).
We old duffers would be happy with mid-table respectability. ![]() |

Saints were desperately unlucky on Saturday and fully deserved to win . We received a red card on 50minutes for a coming together of heads which the ref admits he didn't see and sent the player from the field of play based upon the football player reaction of BPs 10, who was as much to blame . We played 30 minutes out conceding 2 x penalties (rugby God's not shinning on Saints ) ...

I would expect Birkenhead Park to give Anselmians a tough afternoon. I think Birkenhead Park's strengths are Anselmians' strengths but Park are strengthier!
It's a tight league though, and I would have bet heavily on Birkenhead park to beat Broughton Park if I was a betting man and look how that turned out. Good job I don't bet! Every week is an exciting fixture from where I'm standing.

Six points separate 2nd & 9th... it's an even league. Carlisle out in front, a good side but they've rode their luck in a couple of games by all accounts & that can easily change. Only takes a decent run of games to put you into contention. I feel it'll go all the way to the last game.

Thought I would have a go at predicting the winners of this weeks matches, my predictions are as follows:
Anselmians v Birkenhead Park, home win, but only just. De La Salle v Blackburn, away win quite comfortably. Douglas v Northwich, home win. Penrith v Burnage again a home win. Broughton Park v Warrington, away win. Waterloo v Stockport. Home win, just. Manchester v Carlisle, away win. Anyone agree or disagree? |
