It must have passed me by - but it appears that Orrell have shut shop following relegation to North 1. There's talk of a team based in Orrell starting from the bottom (level 10-ish) under the name of Anvils.
First I read that they'd actually folded was an article that's just appeared on the RFU website:

Just a sentence:
" Peterborough have retained their place in Midlands One following Orrell's decision to disband which means that there will be one fewer relegation from National Three North."

Seems a very sad end to a very famous club.

As you say, a very sad end. The problem with clubs having ambition and moving up the leagues, it can result in famous old clubs disappearing.

A double edged sword is promotion and relegation.

And as a Mose fan, I can only say "There but for the grace of God ..."  RIP Orrell indeed.  A sad day.

Sad news indeed. Some of my (very rare) playing highlights came at Orrell's ground when I was a youth playing for Loo! Sad when clubs go under, but I think in this day and age, once a club like Orrell goes into freefall it's very difficult to stop

Went there in their last year in Nat 1 when they were not allowed to meet and greet the opposition committee or give them a meal and a drink. They still managed to give us a great day out.

Lets hope they can get organised and return

A very sad day for Orrell RFC and rugby in general, a loss of a famous club.
