No mention of how long it might take FDR to decide whether it's 4 or 5 points then!

I believe it's now down to the Chief Executive of FDR to make a judgement on this. (No clearcut guidelines in the RFU rules).

So we can expect a swift answer Big%20smile

Oh. That's a shame.

I needed the points to try and gain a place in the Otley (Sportsnetwork) prediction league!

Predictable but sad end to the season.

What's the reason; lack of interest, lack of players, lack of relevance........

A lot of the Otley players have been selected to play for Yorkshire on that day and apparently Otley said that as the league game was a dead rubber, they did not want to stop their players turning ouit for the county.

Moseley await the number of league points to be awarded - hopefully 5, to finish above Cov!

Southend v Mounts Bay

28th March 2009

Mounts Bay was unable to fulfil this fixture due to a lack of front row forwards.

Failing to fulfil a fixture for lack of front row forwards in not an acceptable reason to postpone a match and for this breach Mounts Bay have been deducted 2 Championship points.

Since that time efforts have been made to arrange a date for the match to be played. The Organising Committee, under RFU and NCA Regulations said the match should be played over the Easter weekend of the 11th April.

Mounts Bay was unable to raise a side for that weekend as the majority of players had already arranged to be away for the holiday break. Mounts Bay suggested that the match should be played on 2nd May 2009.

On the 2nd May Southend had already committed their ground for an end of season function which involved them in considerable expenses for the hire and erection of marquees.

In view of these further difficulties, the Organising Committee has decided that the game that was due to be played on the 28th March should not take place and under RFU Regulations the match has been awarded to Southend with a points score in their favour of 20 points to Nil. An extra bonus point was also awarded to them.

The total Championship points awarded to Southend is 5.

The following press release is being issued by the club today:

“Otley cancel Moseley’s final game”

"By agreement with the RFU and First Division Rugby Ltd, Otley Rugby club has cancelled its final National League One game of the season against Moseley which had been scheduled for Saturday May 9th.

As many as eight of the Yorkshire club’s players have been selected for Yorkshire to play Northumberland on 9 May 2009 and Otley has always released players for the County Championship even though it is strictly not required to do so. Otley would not wish to stand in the way of players after a particularly difficult season.

Also, in Otley’s eyes the match against Moseley was considered to be a dead rubber and the club has no objection to the league points being awarded to Moseley.

The decision was conditional upon the RFU and FDR agreeing to no further sanctions being taken against Otley RUFC Ltd and that confirmation was forthcoming yesterday.

Moseley’s Director of Rugby, John Beale, who now relinquishes that position after seven years and who will step up to be the club President next season, commented “Moseley Rugby Club has always been quite prepared to play this fixture but we fully understand Otley’s decision to cancel the game. We wish the Otley club and its players well for next season”

GB13 are you suggesting that Moseley should now get 5 points as a precedent has been set or have you no opinion on this as long as you get the win?

I don't suppose it really matters whether we get 4 or 5 points.

However, as probably all Mose & Cov supporters would understand, we'd prefer to end the season one point ahead of Cov as opposed to being tied for 8th!

Just a little local rivalry that started off in the 19th century you understand Wink

FDR have now awarded Mose a 0-20, 5pt win, so Mose do finish 8th, 1pt ahead of Cov.   This would seem to agree with the Southend v Mounts Bay precedent, even though that was not a ND1 game.

Final table here: http://www.national1.co.uk/league_table.htm

Spindoctor

I was looking at it from the question of what might be a precedent in line with Thomas snr's post.

Looks like FDR have followed the same approach with the Moseley v Otley game.

It's nice to get a top half finish and Moseley's highest for a number of years, but what really mattered was survival in the league.

The 8th place finish is a good reflection on the teams effort over the last couple of months and a number of games lost by a close margin through the rest of the season.

All history now - Focus on 2009-10 (whatever shape it may take)

I would have thought that the score should have been higher with nobody playing for Otley!

And I'll never know about the Otley (Sportsnetwork) prediction league as the moderator has pulled the match from the prediction league and not scored it at 0-20!!!!
