Anyone else watching this? England v Scotland semi-final just now, opening minute & England looked to have scored a try. In spite of there being 5 on-field officials and a TMO, they didn't even have a look at it and Scotland went the length, eventually winning 19-17

I turned on the television literally seconds after the incident, and they didn't replay it at half-time.  But you've just prompted me to do a bit of digging:

He certainly touched down short of the line, but I can't pause/slowmo well enough to tell if he kept pressure on as the ball slid onto the line.

It's moot anyway, as the old saying goes - check the papers tomorrow. Cry

In real time, the ball appears to bobble meaning a possible loss of control, but having watched it in slow motion, it looks to me like that was caused by the tackler trying to dislodge the ball but that the ball carrier retained control.

islander's point was about England's possible try around 1:40 and whether it should have been referred to the TMO. The resolution of the video isn't great, but it looks to me like the attacker grounds the ball short of the line and doesn't retain control of it as it hits the line.

In XVs, this would be referred every day of the week, but that's without the benefit of the extra ARs. Presumably the additional ARs exist in sevens in order to prevent the game from being any more stop-start than necessary, as I believe both decisions were correct, I say well done to the ARs for having the courage of their convictions and doing the job that they're there for. Not doing so would render the role somewhat redundant although I understand that there's a fine line between getting things wrong and holding the game up too much.

To be fair, the resolution of the video isn't great, so I could easily be calling both decisions wrongly.

I was only talking about England's disallowed try at 1:40.  What was the other incident you mention?

Sorry, I thought you were referring to the Scottish try that resulted from the turnover. In hindsight, I'm not sure why I inferred that! My first paragraph was about the Scottish try, the second about the English non-try.
