Hello all. It seems strange to me, even if you are a Chichester RFC supporter/member, that anyone can find an excuse for a player hitting a TJ, and try to defend it. I've seen the video and from what I can see, there was no shove. It was a head butt followed by a punch. The Chichester RFC web site says there was a shove or a push. Perhaps they should be honest and tells us the real facts.
With regards to the Dorking player running in, personally I would be disappointed if team members didn't react to such a disgusting act.

Dorking have, apparently he was harshly yellow carded. What comments are you expecting? It makes me "old school" I know, but I'd say good for him. I don't know how citings work at level 5, but I imagine Chichester would have felt that it would have been rather churlish / hypocritical of them to bring a citing if it was incumbent upon them. Had it reached a citing panel, it seems clear to me that it would have been deemed a red card offence, therefore would have resulted in a ban.

Maybe we're both living in a bygone age, but I was amazed by the lack of response from the Dorking team to one of their own being put on his backside. The sight of players ambling in in dribs and drabs trying to show willing was pretty laughable IMO.

As you know RorD or should know, two wrongs dont make a right. Discipline is very much at the forefront of most clubs playing ethos, and any team with a good discipline record should be congratulated. Also the players you refer to as 'ambling in in dribs and drabs trying to show willing', may not have witnessed what happened or were restrained in their response. Who knows. Our player who retaliated was Ycarded for his reaction (IMO should have been red), so Dorking finished the game with one less player than Chi when they were on the ascent. Maybe the referee thought to issue a YC in view of what had just happened, because clearly he did not witness the assault on the TJ, as the offender remained on the pitch until the final whistle. One other point worthy of mention in this sorry affair is that Dorkings TJ, a retired referee, is aged in his mid to late 50's, which in my view only exacerbates the whole incident.

Having read through this thread this evening, there seem to be a number of questions.

1) did the Chi player push, head-butt or punch the Dorking TJ (or was it a combination of the 3)?

2) if as reported this TJ had been relieved of his duties at an earlier match, why was he allowed to ever do it again?

3) why is the outcome of the disciplinary hearing not in the public domain?

At the moment, I feel as if I have been left dangling - like watching a close match and not seeing the last 5 minutes.

Raider I have to say that I find the fact that the outcome of the disciplinary is not in the public domain is unprofessional and sums up the lack of responsibility by the RFU of the community game.

Lots of guessing, suppositions and whispers has made this incident a joke.

In a previous post Dorking1 mentioned how comprehensive the report of the disciplinary was, maybe he could make it publically available or post the link if he has it?

I did email the RFU asking why the report had not been posted and why there was no link to the discipline reports from the Discipline page - though as noted they are there and can be found via google.

Of course I did not get a reply.

I don't know if this is true, but you take quite a hard line on the rehabilitation of offenders R999 - by the same token, should someone who gets a red card never be allowed to play again?

I see a local Surrey paper got a statement from Sussex RFU, I wonder as a rugby fan if I'll get a response from Sussex?

Knock me over, I got an immediate reply from the RFU - this is the link

http://www.englandrugby.com/mm/Document/Governance/Disclipine/01/32/36/54/GiddinsChichesterJudgmentFeb17_English.pdf

Due to an admin error it had not been posted. I have not read it, but thought you'd all like the chance before I read it on the train!!

With a previous record like that and he still only got 3 years !

What do you have to do to get a life ban ?

Chichester should be ashamed of themselves for continually employing a violent serial offender like that.
