Very best wishes from all at Maidenhead RFC to Barnstaple today, in their playoff game. A great club who I really think deserve another shot at Nat 2.

This was probably Westcliff’s best performance of the season today. We started well, scored some very good tries, managed the game exceptionally well, and in the end ran out very comfortable winners. We were missing a couple of regulars who were on holiday, but you’d never have guessed it.
Nat2 is going to be very tough for an amateur club, and with a couple of players leaving our strength in depth is going to be tested to the full.
I met some lovely people from Barnstaple today and hope they have a safe journey home.

What sort of crowd did you get at Westcliff?

My guess at the crowd would be about 750 with many from other local clubs it was a good social occasion.
Have to say Westcliff knew what was required given the gale blowing and executed their plan to perfection. It was at least 20 minutes before Barnstaple got into the Westcliff 22 and that was with the wind advantage! By this time Westcliff were 10 points up and Barnstaple never really looked like scoring. They must be disappointed and I did expect a closer game but Westcliff knew what had to be done and did it well.

Westcliff’s attention now turns to the Aaron Lewis 10s. The Aaron Lewis foundation is a fantastic charity set up in memory of Aaron.
Please think about entering a team and support what is always a really enjoyable day of rugby, live music, beer tent, fancy dress party etc

Very well done to Westcliff and I wish them the all the best in N2S..
As a Barumite I was a little disappointed/surprised at the size of the defeat for sure but not at all disappointed at the result as I did not think they were ready to compete in N2S ( most all of the fans I know say the same). It seems like this view has been reinforced by the fact that several of the senior players are contemplating retirement.
