Three caldy players have signed for anselmians up to now, I'm presuming they're fringe or 2nd team players, can anyone from caldy let us know.
North 1 is going to be a tough league to get out of.

North 1 west was a tough league last term, that's for sure.
It was never going to get any easier though.
It's worth noting that a number clubs are happy with playing at Level 6, feeling that "this is our level".
Northwich, Stockport, Waterloo and Manchester clearly have higher ambitions.

Word on the street is they have some £££'s to splash & have ambition. Can't knock em if it fits their model. Gonna be a belting season in N1W.

Seems to be an ambitious club that's planned to stay in the league.
Pocklington and birkenhead park failed to recruit well while kirby Lonsdale did and stayed up in nat 3 north last season.
New club house and cash to splash they look good to stay up I'd say.at least.

Splashing the cash to do what. When are clubs going to learn? I believe Lou McGowan who Waterloo had     announced had joined them has gone to Anselmians as well

Posted By: MikeGC
Date Posted: 28 Jun 2018 at 14:12
well "splashing the cash" clearly worked for a couple of clubs last term......
However, it didn't work for two of our near neighbours

If they're lucky enough to have any money to "invest" in players, good luck to them

They're building a new club house and a side for the league above. Good luck to them.
Wirral might be in the same league next season one way or another. Not sure which one though.

Let’s be honest, nobody has left caldy 2xv for “training facilities”

Good luck to;

Liam Isaacs - scrum half / fly half or full back

Very creative, good eye for space and an elusive runner with great skills

Paul the Seagull Selwood - outside centre / winger

Gas to burn, good step and reads a game very well

Danny Salisbury - ugly front rower

Great club man, consistent and will give his all, good understanding of the game and great skills for an ugly same head (cant comment on front row specific skills)

Louis McGowan - 2nd row

Ridiculously experienced, hard, great leader. Line out expert

Matty Dowler - 6/8

Hard running big lad, great skills and a surprising turn of pace

All great lads, love the club atmosphere, will add a lot on the field but even more off the field if integrated well

Big shame for caldy to lose them, but good luck - i hope they find what they are looking for bit secretly hope that each open will be back at caldy come January

Add onto that caldy losing Luke Harris to Wirral, carl Southan to park, Fraser smale to park and a couple of lads to hoylake - a really tough season ahead for caldy 2xv and a worrying sign for their future

All their ambitious signings didn't help them on Saturday when they lost 38 - 12 at Northwich in the Cheshire Vase in a game in their words that didn't matter. Perhaps the result will be different this Saturday when they play again in the league!

Posted By: RatBoy
Date Posted: 28 Aug 2018 at 13:25
They started all of their new signings, bar Louis McGowan did they not?

have to bear in mind that it is holiday season, so potentially a few key players missing

if it was a full strength team, it doesn't bode well, a loss to Mold and heavy defeat in the cup against league opposition - whom are there or there about's near the top in that league, is not a great way to lead into your season

if i was the coach, i would target the Cheshire Vase, had they won it and finished mid table in their new league, it would have proven a decent season

out of the cup and potential relegation fight doesn't sound as appealing

Anselmians played a strong Northwich team on Saturday and one that would have been promoted to the North Prem if Vale of Lune hadn't sent their 2nd team to Wilmslow having won the league last year .
New players take a while to bed in and the loss of 4 of last seasons best players to injury will make it interesting . What I do know is Northwich will be in the shake up this season, but they do visit Anselmians on Saturday  ... !!

Throwing together a team of mercenaries over the summer then expecting them to beat the fancied league winners in their first full outing would be slightly petulant.
No doubt the saints set up would of been in a state of exultation if they'd triumphed so understating the game after getting beaten is disappointing. Did Kersal do the same after getting pumped by sandbach or admit the standard was too high for them despite their best efforts? At least they didn't back out like stockport, it used to be called taking your medicine.
Last season after a losing streak dating back to Christmas Wirral won the cheshire vase beating sandbach in the final. I'm sure it was the highlight of an otherwise testing season. It looks like it might be sandbach this season but off the back of a strong campaign .
All the sides in the Vase would of been targeting a win.
In a season when Sandbach,Northwich,Birkenhead and possibly Kersal are targeting promotion wirral, wilmslow and saints survival, all the coaches pre match would of been keen for a strong start which poses the question what happened to Stockport?
I can't see anselmians struggling , they'll be better this Saturday for the experience and will improve picking up wins against other sides.
As for devaluing the competition because they got beat, thats another matter.

Posted By: Foo Fighter
Date Posted: 29 Aug 2018 at 15:53
Not sure about the mercenaries label, as I see it lads want to play in front of a decent crowd playing a half decent level of rugby opposed to 2nd Xv.
I'm also not sure who you suggest was devaluing the competition , as I see it by Saints playing the strongest team possible on the day, they are respecting the competition unlike the teams who failed to field a side !!!

Anselmians Will be at full strength this week and at Home it will be a completely different result. Northwich will come expecting to roll them over. They WILL be in for a shock.

Take the mercenaries tag tongue in cheek as it was intended, it's certainly going to be one of the games to keep an eye on locally.

The following is a paragraph from this week's match preview
"Last Saturday, in the increasingly irrelevant Cheshire Vase competition, Saints had chastening wake-up call. We lost to a well-organised and strong side, 38-12. This, however, is the real thing. Warm-up matches against Mold and last week at Northwich are no realistic preparation for the intensity of League rugby."

If it was irrelevant, why enter. If or one will be looking at the result tomorrow with great interest.

seems a very odd quote given they are playing exactly the same team this week. Even if the players are different I doubt Northwich will be any less or more intense.

Also I believe Anselmians are playing away from their home while the ground is developed so 'home' advantage may be diluted slightly

they did lose..but a respectable scoreline given Northwich have been bordering on the playoffs for the last few years.

I imagine its going to a tough year for Anselms though unless they can make their Vauxhall ground feel like 'home' games

Video of defeat vs Northwich on Saints website. I'll keep my powder dry of what I thought. One surprise though, having also read the match report, was the constant reference to Anselms shock at the pace of the game at "this level"!!! Surely having brought in so many from leagues above, there should be no surprises whatsoever, in fact those boys should find the opposite.

After four successive defeats (or should that be five?), are Anselmians in danger of picking up the tag of 'poor losers' (sic)?

Rather than report on yet another loss for their 'ambitious' first team, their website now seems to be carrying headline stories about wins for their 2nd and 3rd teams!!

How different things were not so long ago when the mighty Saints were making their dash for promotion last season, followed by a raft of signings to reflect their 'ambition'.

Surely, clubs should accept defeat with good grace, and not quietly wash over another loss for the main team in the club because it doesn't suit their purposes?

DarthVader I suggest you put your lightsaber away and pour yourself a glass of cheer
We have never suggested we would be or do anything great in N1W .
We post a match report for all of our teams win or lose , but as an amateur club we may be guilty of not getting our reports up in a timely enough manner for you , but we do put them up !!

I’m confident that they will turn things around before too long.
Good Luck

Stockport this week so that will give an indication - still a difficult league to call.

Definitely misinformed .
Anselmians are an ambitious club looking only to consolidate in N1W . We are about to have top facilities built which has been spoken about in earlier posts and we have a number of people who work hard to better the club, which will hopefully see us maintain this level . Ouch

Not sure if it fits well with me. They are constantly asking for volunteers
to do things, Collect Admission Monies, Photographer etc. They recently
even asked for volunteers to transport rubbish/debris to the Local Tip.
Could they not afford a skip! (If they forgot to pay one of their stars, they
could afford a skip). I bet none of the stars got their hands dirty on the day!

I notice that they now say that admission is £5 including a free programme.
Why did they change from the admission by programme option. HMRC!

I do agree though it is early in the season and things can improve on the
playing front, we will watch with bated breath.

Marmaduke you are deluded ..
Amateur clubs rely on volunteers , the same blokes meet every Thur to cut and mark the pitches before sitting down to a fry up and catching up like retired people do , it beats sitting in a chair  ??

What does your club do and which club is it ???

We'll see it's a long season and the teams played are all up there .. Blackburn game was effectively over on 35mins when the ref produced a red for the Saints hooker and Sat at Stockport as previously posted the ref bottled a decision (with Schofield in his ear) with 5 mins remaining when a Saints player was tackled without the ball in the red zone .
You are right though and soon enough Saints will need to put games beyond the reach of their opponents # still learning !!

which one of his 3 sons is the question?

i see Annies signed another former Caldy 2xv player in Mark Williams, who i understand is being made to play in his natural position of prop

im still waiting for my call from them..............................

Ratboy you've lost me there , who are we getting ?? Maybe Birkenhead Baz is destined to return with the prodigal son- in fact it could be him you're on about as he has 3 sons !!  Is he tiring of the Chardonnay on Caldy hill already or is it that they won't let him build a new Nissan hut for them ??? LOL

Posted By: Monkey Boy

Who's Birkenhead Baz?

I was told that moves are afoot to bring in someone with rugby pedigree to oversee the operations and ensure the club is in good shape for the new facilities. Also they need cash and plenty of it as apparently the summer recruitment was simply at a level that's not good enough

Stay in the trees Monkey Boy and enjoy the fruit .
Rumour has it Saints have done a deal to bring in Johnson from Sale Fc at 10 but the big rumour is that they have Nonu at 6 who has been there since last year , and his big bro has signed to play 12.
Imagine that at NW1 . They both cost a chippy supper (with peas) and 5 pints !!

Posted By: Loo fighters

They could bring Owen Farrell in at 10 but wouldn't make any difference if the rest of the team are all at sea. Maybe the boys that got them up last season might have made a better fist of things so far. Having said that, I'm sure they'll click just in time for the Loo game in a month or so...

Absolutely Monty.

Let's hope the RFU Police the salary cap effectively.

It's just ridiculous if they are going to allow clubs to simply ignore it and I would presume the same at your club if this Birkenhead chap is appointed to flash the cash

Ultimately, you reap what you sow.

League position by your own efforts should determine how successful you are, and not by how much 'ambition' is collectively thrown at players.

It really is sooo difficult when we only have a playing budget of 95K , we attempt to keep that tight but have to admit to the odd chippy supper for our different class Caldy juggernaut signings!!
Meanwhile Carlisle are 100% amateur as their lunch guests were keen to point out 😉 3x ex Newcastle players all less than 32 yrs of age and a DMP player just fancied the step up to Carlisle .
Saints well beaten by the better team .

That seems a bit harsh,at the start of the season anyone could view the pictures and videos, I even commented on the quality of the saints homepage. At one stage they had the other teams in the division grouped into easy average and hard games, there was even a bio on the match day referee yesterday!
Whilst I commend the enthusiasm of the saints newsroom they'd be better toning it down slightly till they bag the elusive first win.

M B. Why Would I want to know someone like that I don't know who he or she is ! Simply to say they don't exist in my world. All I will say in mitigation to him or her insults are that if I want to do something I do ! and why do I do it ? Yes its because I can.

Wonder if that gets a rise from the Anselmian Group, although they will deem it getting hooked, and not defending their clubs good name. But as I have said before life is about opinions mine was only if you big yourself up ,YOU HAD BETTER DELIVER !!and I got vilified  for it.Any way onwards and upwards I have bigger fish to fry than worry about the demise of Anselmians get it Monty a pun I know bit above tor head sorry.
