All the above forget one important point, the RFU have no spine. They wouldn't jeopardise the monies from Team England for one second let alone a season.
Winning isn't everything, it just makes the beer taste better

I had an interesting debate with Ryan Walkinshaw on Twitter last night - until he blocked me!

For those interested go to his Twitter feed - I'm tackler7.

One interesting comment he made was "bloodig [sic] in youngsters is also quite far down the list of priority reasons to ringfece [sic] the Premiership."

I found this strange as one of the non financial reasons for ringfencing was to give the Youngsters more chance with the fear of relegation being removed, clubs could blood in their academy player.

"Many promoted clubs have struggled to bridge the gulf between the Championship and Premiership - the 131-year-old club London Welsh lost all 22 games in 2015 and folded the following year."

What utter bilge.

London Welsh never 'folded'.
The professional team, which was a separate entity from the rest of the club, went bust.
London Welsh Rugby Union Club is still there and going very strongly indeed.
They ran out of beer on Saturday, all beer. We resorted to drinking red wine!
A 31-15 bonus point win over Tabard and a 170 sell out lunch.

Absolutely correct but to be fair to Ritchie (he says through gritted teeth) the quote you highlighted was made by the writer of the piece and not by him. I can quite see why the writer didn't put his/her name to the article.

(I realise you didn't attribute the quote directly to Ritchie but without reading the article it might be thought he did).

I have always thought a pan-European competition makes more sense at the top levels of the game, this just moves it on to the Championship which itself is at risk from PRL and CVC. Our style of rugby is becoming staid - let's see what the Europeans and others can bring to the table.

I'm not saying National 1 could make it work, but the thought of Championship clubs playing Pro D2 sides is another option.

Several Cornish Pirates supporters have mentioned the Pro14 possibility for quite a while - dating back to when it was the Celtic League (pre Italian & South African participation) as Cornwall is a Celtic land - so it doesn't surprise me that this has cropped up.

More rubbish from a club that benefitted from promotion.

Yes, ironically we didn't here these comments from Lansdown last season - probably because Bristol were in the Championship then
