Has there been demand from level 6 clubs for further regionalisation? Many of the scenarios seem to be looking at moving from two L6 leagues (East and West) to three (SW,SE and NE)

If a level 6 team is hoping to do well and even get promoted in to L5 then surely they will need to get used to a certain amount of cross region travel.

Maybe Lancashire have it right after all and the RFU should massively reduce their remit and allow local/regional areas to have their own set up with maybe a potential pathway or application for any clubs that find themselves in circumstances where they want to challenge their way up through the leagues

I believe within the county they do - but the divisional leagues are meant to be run by the Division Organising Comittee (DOC).

Level 1-4 RFU (via PRL, FDR and NCA)
Level 5-8 DOC (RFU North in this case)
Level 9 and below County RFU

Now whether there should be four levels of divisional league is a different question.

Current RFU rules only permit a maximum of two leagues feeding into a higher league

Though the Eastern Counties get round this by having three leauges in phase one followed by a Shield, Plate, Bowl and Salver with the winner and runner up of the shield promoted.

Thanks for that...so assume without either a change in regulations or an Eastern Counties style workaround, the 3 L6 leagues seems unlikely.

You always wonder in these sorts of scenarios just how much 'consultation' is actually happening. I admit it isn't an easy fix when many clubs have differing desires and motivations.

The one thing I would suggest needs to be avoided is the 10 team leagues. I don't think anyone particularly enjoys those

I think if RFU North asked nicely the rules could be changed.

Though we do not want RFU changing their rules at a whim - they might decide to do away with promotion and relegation.

I do not believe the Cumbrian teams want to play in a 8 team league either - but unless enough other clubs are willing to travel that is what they get.

Hence square circles

If the clubs are unhappy at the amount of travel and want to play more regional, local rugby to suit modern lives why do so many clubs at L6 offer payment to players?

L6 weren't part of the discussion forums.
Quite why i do not know as promotion/relegation would have a direct bearing with L& and any possible changes.

The cynic in me suggests the committee were and are hoping to force their will on this.

I believe the next meeting was to be held this week. Any updates or further info available yet?

They had a meeting in Yorkshire on Tuesday. I'm told it was a somewhat uncomfortable experience for the committee.

They were meeting the Lancashire clubs last night.
Question there is, which ones?

Unlike the Yorkshire meeting I understand the Lancashire meeting was quite civilized. With all clubs in the RFU leagues and the ADM Lancashire Leagues being invited as well as some from the NOWIRUL Leagues. Only know this second hand as I couldn't go.

The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom.

its my understand that the Yorkshire Clubs in attendance where a little abrasive toward the RFU panel

At the Lancs meeting I believe some Clubs from Level 6 down where in attendance although it was stressed that unless you were a L6 Club being relegated this season none of any the proposals up for discussion would effect any L6 Clubs next season or indeed until after 2020/21 at the earliest but thats a whole new discussion in itself. Given the relative success of the Lancashire Leagues (stressed more than once by those Clubs from it at the meeting) then you could conclude that maybe CB (County) based Leagues from L7 down are the way forward but that may create some issues for the smaller CBs in the North particularly Cumbria and Cheshire.

I'm told two more clubs are looking to join the breakaway leagues.

Looks like it's down to two options....obviously all depends on how the Lancashire clubs feel about going back in to the RFU fold or if they are happy with where they are

Two Options

Trident - which clubs.

Also any thinking going other way and re joining RFU? Via the two options or just cause they tried the Lancashire system but now want to be on RFU ladder.

Cheers

Checking http://lancashirerfu.pitchero.com/news/league-applications--expansion-26123/ seems to confirm it, but they not named publicly yet.

Both options look absolutely insane. Huckleberryermouth end up in South West lv 6 in Y, or in option X in Lv 8 in Cumbria 1?

Lancashire clubs exist, or they do not.

Whoever got paid to do this is a thief and needs to repay their money.

I also like how they omit the third, and possibly preferred option of, leave well alone.

There is a suggestion that yet again, not all L6 clubs have received a copy of the proposals. They certainly weren't invited to the meetings.

T, in Lancashire at the last meeting Level 6  Clubs where invited and a few turned up..... the others thinking "not really our concern". I'm guessing there has been a re-focusing of minds. New Lancashire meeting to be held next Thursday from the email I've just received.

They didn't invite the Yorkshire L6 clubs, confirmed by RFUNorth.

Thing is, every club is going to look at the options with a single view of what suits them best - and only them.
In the main, either option suits L8 clubs down. Option Y for those wanting 12 team leagues.
But, option Y is the worst possible scenario for many of the Yorks L6 clubs. This also has a knock on effect for future seasons.

Let's have a restructure to reduce travel time and distance along with giving thought to players welfare and lifestyles - then impose a system that does the exact opposite.
No wonder the panel got such a hard time at the Yorkshire meetings.

I do believe clubs are due to elect new Council Members next month. Will be interesting.
