Old Elthamians 21 - 31 Wharfedale

An exciting match with the Nat2n club worthy winners over the Nat1 club.

arguably the best performance by a team in green for decades  and probably the best atmosphere  created  by the massive traveling support  you just had to be there

Congratulations to Wharfedale on winning the National Colts cup. With Yorkshire smashing Lancashire in the U20's
final at Twickenham every looks "Rosey" for north of the border rugby.
Where does it all go wrong in the future.

Yes very well played, with some very old heads on young shoulders.
Plus they are as tough as nails up in the dales!

Where does it go wrong?
In Yorkshire the clubs and county are as strong as the academy.

In other areas the academies are so powerful they strip clubs and the county of players.
This can be seen by the number of professional players coming out of the county system.

What we see is quality young players drawn by the lights of the South East, good jobs, great social life and a cracking semi pro wage in the national leagues.

With the slow death of Yorkshire Carnegie, which young talent would want to join their Academy.

As to which is more fun for the u18 and below player; a life of regimentation and few games in an Academy environment, or playing for club every week, and County for the best ones.  With regards to the fun factor, i think we have it wrong

This paragraph summed it up perfectly for me ......

"They are a team. Obviously it has been superbly coached, and obviously it includes remarkable individual talents, but ultimately the team’s great success has come from their strength as a unit"

How do wharfedale fair keeping this group for next season into senior rugby, or are they off to Uni etc? I know all clubs struggle to transfer players any hints and tips?
