This is my personal view

I attended Richmond’s AGM last week and this what emerged

We made a profit in the 2nd year of the championship and I suspect we will make one from the 3rd year

We will be playing in Nat 1 this coming season

As for players we have lost more to retirement making over 900 first team caps gone

We have attracted more interest from players than we did in the championship.

As to what quality and who I do not know-Richmond’s policy is the DOR announces them in mid August

The club will lose 550K from the RFU but our sponsors have remained loyal for next season

The club will have similar infrastructure next season as in the championship

I can only think that the club is using some of its reserves built up from the championship to support this business model

To me this makes sense we are rebuilding with a lot of new players in Nat 1 in the hope of winning it next season

At the moment there are 7 home clashes with London Scottish still to be sorted but as we have to play on Saturday

LS will have a few FRI/SUN games

So to the final question what happens if YC fail then in my opinion we will NOT take their place

And if we did taking over their fixtures we would have again clashes with LS

I was at the same AGM, 728, and I have to say that wasn't my conclusion at all! I think people were really disappointed to go down, especially considering what had happened with Carnegie and Hartpury and they were really up for giving it another crack as soon as possible.

Sure, we will look different, but the core of the team is still there and it's a great chance for Vikings players to show their worth, so if that's what we get a chance to do, bring it on. Most of us thought we would come straight down in our first season (even if we didn't admit it), but we ended up beating everyone in the League bar the "Premiership" clubs and in my view almost everyone now believes that Championship is the level we deserve to be at.

National 1, since Richmond we last there, has become ridiculously competitive and this year huge money is being spent by Chinnor (!!!!), OE's, RP, Sale and Roth . . . so going straight back up will be desperately tough this year . . if they had managed to keep their pack I think they would have dominated, so it will be interesting to see their remodelled side.

For the first time since I can remember, it wouldn't seem a given for either relegated club at Championship and National 1 to be immediately promoted the following season. Granted Newcastle are a formidable force you have Ealing chomping at the bit, Jersey gathering pace whilst Bedford and Pirates will always take a scalp during the season.

Likewise in National 1 you arguably have 7 teams who could say they are in the running! Do Richmond deserve to be in Championship with their effective model? Absolutely. But something tells me it will not be as easy as previous years. Roll on September.....

Agree. National 1 has gone mad.

Well, it hasn't always been our experience that the more money you spend, the more points you score, but it will be fun finding out!

I certainly agree re Nat 1 and it being pretty wide open, yet I have to disagree in the case of the Championship. Newcastle have an infrastructure, players and facilities that are formidable to say the least. I can't see them losing a game and I think they'll run away with it as the relegated Premiership side has done every season.

I agree, but Leeds and Bristol are cautionary tales - although Bris made it back eventually. Not always a given even in recent years.

Don't underestimate DMP I understand they are playing in Stealth mode currently and have a number of high profile signings to announce.

Poor season last term when were favorites I can't see the same mistake being made twice

I can only think of two clubs relegated from the Championship who have bounced back at the first time of asking in recent years.  Certainly not Coventry, Bees, Moseley, Rotherham, Plymouth or Esher.

Pretty sure that the "loadsamoney" business model accusation can't be pinned on us this coming season. More like making the best of what we've got... There or thereabouts at best, but not promotion candidates, realistically.

Change of coach and loss of a couple of stalwarts will be the biggest challenges this time around.

(Small sigh of relief when I first accessed this thread - had almost come to assume that "situation" was a euphemism for financial crisis.)
Come cheer up, my lads - 'tis to glory we steer!

Mate of mine's son has emigrated to SW London and attended Richmond training last night. He said more than 70 players at training and the standard was strong across all groups. If they have lost players it looks like a few have subsequently joined. Certainly appear have a bigger squad than Yorkshire Carnegie at present-perhaps they could loan/dual register a few to help them out.......

Richmond a proper Rugby Club with 5 senior teams . .  appears to be a model that the RFU dont like!!!

Better to have a team of foreign mercaneries that you cant afford!!!!

Are you talking about me or to me?

It seems few rugby teams above Level 5? have solely home grown players or below Level 5 are actively seeking journeymen - perhaps the odd coach on their way out of the game. But why? Who wants the hassle of Levels 1-3? Level 4 rugby is excellent - full of clubs aspiring to become broke (he said cynically)
