Let them go. RFU tell them to set up their own union. No more money given to them by the RFU.

Championship increased in size. All England international players to be picked from the Championship and below. Set up a national cup competition for all teams under the RFU .

Now let's hear the Premiership crowd grumble  ????

Just a few thoughts to get everyone thinking and talking

PRL has picked their time for this battle well. They are flush with cash from CVS, the RFU needs their players for the Rugby World Cup, and the RFU is broke and leaderless. The best move from the RFU is to insist on sticking to the agreement that runs through the end of next season to get to a point where they have more of the leverage and more cash.

You forgot Championship sides playing in Europe.
The precedet from Lancashire surely means breakaway would be treated as a merit table - and RFU should prioritize providing referees to the pyramid.

If the Premiership clubs were outside of RFU control, funding withdrawn and players excluded from playing for England - especially with the World Cup approaching I suspect a lot of those disbarred would vibe very disgruntled.

Except the Lancashire "breakaway" is merely a competition and none of the Clubs or players have left the governance of the RFU, If the Premiership want to pull up the draw bridge they can, I doubt  the RFU would make any Club able to provide or any player ineligible for national duty.

If the Championship becomes the Top RFU Competition then so be it I don't think anyone can stop the will of the Clubs. My worry would be once the Top 12/13 go SuperPrem* then maybe the Championship Clubs may go the same way, then the Nat League Clubs and before you know it Level 5 Glass Ceiling!

Lets face it, everyone says they are all for the "good of the game" but actually its all about our little bit of it getting the best deal for us and then after that its "good" for the rest of the game even if its not.

Internationals & World Cups are the games shop window. The Premiership needs a reasonably succesful England side to constantly promote the game
If England teams are picked only from the Championship then England would be cast into the International wilderness for a very long time possibly permanently Tier 2.
Can the Premiership suits stomach having a substandard England side if the RFU tell them to sling their hook ? I think the RFU can or should use the England side as a very big stick to beat them with. I don't think TV rights and attendances for England would suffer but even that would make the RFU spend wisely rather than on their bloated staff  list and vanity projects.
