Featherstone Rovers have sacked prop Darrell Griffin for a "serious breach of contract". They say he played 3 games for Morley Rugby Union while under contract to Rovers.
If Rugby is the game they play in Heaven ..... Why does it hurt like Hell when you retire?

Quote "While negotiations progressed, the ex-Leeds, Wakefield, Huddersfield and Salford player was categorically told not to partake in rugby union. These clear terms were also added into his contract.

At a disciplinary hearing on December 11, club officials discussed allegations made against Griffin regarding the contravening of 'Clause 13' of the Rugby Football League (RFL) players’ contract.

The Rovers’ legal advisers stated Griffin’s appearances for a rugby union club, without written permission from the club chairman or chief executive - as per the RFL players’ contract, was an act of serious insubordination. This is an example of gross misconduct. "

Lesser code attitudes towards people who want to play proper rugby in a nutshell.

One of the silliest comments I've read on this forum. Player is under contract and breaks one or more conditions means misconduct whichever code he plays.

A contract is a contract. It was clearly spelt out to the guy that he shouldn't play another contact sport and he still did his own thing. What would the player have expected if he had got himself injured and couldn't train/play for his employer? Expect them to still pay his wages?

If you are looking for RL's inferiority complex with RU then read Hull FC owners comments in this article.

Surely the ambition should be to make league as successful as it can be. Just trying to do down the Union code as part of improving your own just comes across as petty.

Simple fact is that RL is struggling badly. Yes it might have an M62 corridor heartland but it has also not supported the sport in its Cumbrian heartland and it's attempts to take a foothold in London or elsewhere has had limited success.

League doesn't have Unions global appeal (despite those in charge of Union trying it's best to shrink it's global appeal to serve the benefit of 2/3 countries) and should forge its own route to success, not try and replicate or compete with another sport as it's primary motivation.

Rumour had it on Saturday that Morley were matching Mr Griffins salary at Featherstone. If true it would pay for 3 or 4 players at this level. If Morley have that sort of money one would have thought they would have been better splashing the cash at the start of the season. Then again they did the great escape last year.

That's a real poke in the eye for all the comments on rugby league sites stating that rugby union is inferior to league. he has played at super league level Morley are in the fifth level of union. looking at the Morley web site there were only two players playing on Saturday who are listed on their web site.
This reinforces the argument for players at this level not being paid other than expences
