If Argentina can run out the Jaguares in Super Rugby and then virtually the same team in the workd cup, then why doesn't Jersey put out the reds for international competition. Get those boys some caps. Good game to watch, and a great advertisement for the quality in the Championship.

Aside from the fact that for the purposes of Rugby, Jersey is part of Hampshire.
How many of those players would qualify for Jersey?

All of them ARE qualified to play for Jersey, which for NO purposes is part of Hampshire, but thats not what you're asking I guess.
Meanwhile, we'll enjoy our moment of celebration and night in Moscow.......
Come on Jersey........

see what you're saying Cq, but it comes across as rather churlish...

Enjoyed the game, a decent contest with some good tries. Hope post-match socialising isn't affected too much by a somewhat brutal schedule tomorrow - leave hotel in Moscow at 0300, land back in Jersey 20 hours later... Wacko

Surely both teams gained from the match. Russia had a real contest and finished the match really well. Jersey lads had the experience of their playing lives and in the main played well and imo were a credit to all involved. I wish I could have been there but I hope they enjoy the evening and get back safe tomorrow. Scarlets and Falcons next. Bring it on.
Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

It was an response to gerg_861 suggesting you should be an international side.

You are affiliated to Hampshire CB, London and SE and the RFU.
And of course all the players are registered to Jersey the club.
But that does not necessarily mean they could play for Jersey as a international team.

Just as not everyone who plays for Cardiff is Welsh.

But I suppose you could think about affiliating to World Rugby as a separate side.
If Monaco and San Marino and even Gib can affiliate to Rugby Europe, why not Jersey or Guernsey.

I don't think it was a serious suggestion by Gerg - he had a chuckle to himself hafl-way through. Inevitable you'll get a few queries along these lines after a game + result like this; never say never, but it's not realistic IMHO. I think it should be enjoyed as a one-off game in which the boys did themselves proud and put Jersey on the map - bravo!

Definitely not serious. But amusing to consider.

Sorry if I misinterpreted your post CQ and over reacted.
I guess not very many because most players would have aspirations to represent other countries, e.g. Venter and Atalifo are already heading for the RWC for their countries of birth. Plus we have players from Wales, Australia, South Africa, Tonga etc
Jersey is an oddball for international representation. We have a local Commonwealth Games Association and send a few competitors to those every four years as Team Jersey. Thats probably our highest aspiration for international representation, although currently there are a couple of young surfers hoping to get to the Olympics but that would be for GB. We are not recognised by the IOC as an independent country so always come under GB - e.g., a Jerseyman ran for Team GB back in the sixties, Colin Campbell, who still lives here.
There have been other top Jersey born individuals in various sports, Harry Vardon and Tommy Horton in golf, Graeme Le Saux in football, Beckie Herbert in hockey,  and currently Serena Guthrie is England netball captain, but they represented England not Jersey.
Come on Jersey........

Jersey is recognised by FIDE, the International Chess Federation and regularly sends a national team to the biennial Chess Olympiad

Was a good match to watch even if sir seemed a bit over enthusiastic with the whistle early on - guess he was laying down a mark to ensure control.

The footage was better than a lot of televised prem matches - never felt i couldn't see what had happened and how.

Guernsey and Jersey already play as individual nations at cricket.

I got to see quite a bit of the second half. I thought Jersey were really superb and especially when they had to dig deep in defence towards the end.

I think this highlights the strength and quality of Championship rugby. RFU - please take note and invest more in the Championship!

Over half a million per team - how much more do you want? teams at N1 and N2 level can only dream of such riches.

Didn't see the game but if Jersey played well that bodes well for them as traditionally they have had poor starts before becoming one of the form teams around the winter period onwards.

I was thinking that this game provides a very strong example against the rubbish argument put out by the PRL every year that says that you can't have a John Player cup anymore because it would be too dangerous for the players. If the Russian team is only Champ standard, but they can be allowed to play the best teams in the world, then how can that argument hold water?

True. But neither island plays as a club side in any English cricket league/structure in the same way as Gsy Raiders/Jsy Reds do in rugby...

Actually Guernsey did for a few seasons in the Sussex League as Guernsey Sarnians.

On a separate comment, a great win for Jersey.
