Club Confidential this Saturday Rabbie B?
Given local interest, I'll organise the media to stand by for an official Shanners news scoop.

As with any club we start every season to finish as high as possible in the league and if that means we are top then we will get promoted to the Championship. As anyone who has visited our revamped base at Well Hall it is easy to see the changes and the money spent turning it into a decent venue for Rugby.

Cambridge University have announced Shanahans move to Blackheath but still nothing from Blackheath
i would imagine there will be quite a bit of player movement at Blackheath this summer. Question is will Shanahan finally stop playing?

Plymouth was run by idiots luckily it isn't anymore and Cambridge the main man pulled his money after RFU changed promotion from 2 to 1 after 11 games into the season

"Any Club" has not just lost its Head Coach & Forwards Coach before half way through a season so although the facilities may be great ( OAs ain't too shabby) what is a new coach expecting or is he walking into a nightmare with no money and no players ?

I never know what makes a bad/ good coach as coaches seem to fail and get sacked and then find another coaching job.
Someone to fill a spot it seems to me.

I take your point, but I'd say that his CV speaks for itself.

James Pritchard came to Coventry this season with an excellent CV, and a great reputation as a player and as a person. He was appointed as a player coach - the defensive coach, certainly a part of the game where he knows his stuff.
As a coach, results spoke for themselves. Coventry had a poor defence under him,and he was dismissed before Christmas. He is now at OA. Sadly an example of an excellent player who, that far, hadn't succeeded as a coach.

I meant his coaching CV. What sort of coaching CV did Pritchard have when he was appointed?

What capacity have Old Albanian appointed him in?

IT if you had taken the time you may have learned that the forwards coach left due to his expanding business and he was travelling a fair distance plus the demands of a young family. The head coach role with the USA increased and likewise he was finding time hard to juggle. Having known Shanners for a while he is probably wise enough to ask the relevant questions regarding players and the other issues you seem to think exist. Our DOR, chairman, president in fact all the rugby management team are still in place so players will still move in and out as a head coach is not required to balance the books as the role suggests he coaches.

These things didn't just happen after September and were always likely.

Not sure what you mean by "a head coach is not required to balance the books"
A HC that doubles up as an accountant would be a real asset.

So is he head coach or just a coach ?

There's always one that says that as well. Very insightful.

A number of clubs across the threads being mentioned as following London Welsh into oblivion and a set of circumstances presents itself that look similar but for some reason not allowed to ask uncomfortable questions on a forum, very strange.
Seems that is a common factor in rugby administration, where too few questions and challenges are asked or made of the blazers to any of the perceived wisdom at the time.
Long live Club and may they progress to the Championship promised land as everything is rosy.

Hip ray, hip ray hip ray !

No, this should be an opportunity to feveal the jungle drums. As half the joy of here is the open conversation beyond the "corporate line"!!!

Even the worst of newspapers are relatively upfront about the source / validity of anything they print that can't be conclusively proved to be fact, so I have little respect for a post which claims to state a fact without any mention of the source or the person who makes it. If a statement cannot be corroborated by a reliable source, then it is a rumour, so why not say so? It strikes me as arrogant for anyone to expect a bunch of people who don't know them from Adam to accept what they say as gospel just because they say so.

Personally I don't like to post rumours. The only credible way to do so would be to cite the source, which wouldn't be fair to that source, so I prefer to wait for an official announcement and then tell anyone who will listen that I knew it was going to happen!

It strikes me as rather ironic that a post in The Championship forum which contained a link to an article in a national newspaper has mysteriously vanished while this thread with no credible source remains.

Fake news? Of course it isn't!
Fake news is the malicious publication of false information.
Intouch was ahead of the game in revealing Club's new coaching acquisition.
(Other coaching appointments will be revealed later)
No journalist worthy of the name would wait for an official announcement before publishing information in his/her possession.
Obviously a rugby forum can't be compared to a media organisation, but this was a genuine scoop for Intouch.

Shanners has also been very successful with the Hertfordshire side in the County Championship over a period of several seasons (I was part of the Cornwall County coaching set up that ran into them on regular occasions). If you discount a tough period at Plymouth when financial issues clearly clouded issues on the pitch, his coaching CV is excellent. He is also a decent rugby man, and I wish him all the best at club.

That's my take, I don't think the comparison to someone appointed in his first (AFAIK) senior coaching role was fair.

I think most Plymouth fans will tell you that it was not the financial issues that were the problem at Brickfields.  The club aimed for a top four spot but came bottom and it cost them big time.
N1 is a lot different to the Championship. You can get away with a lot more whetheras in the Championship you get punished big time for any mistakes or poor setplays. Full time rugby is also different as is a club like Plymouth to Old Albanian.

"A good journalist never reveals his/her sources... and neither do I!"

As a former full-time journo I recognise the appeal of a scoop - this competition between media is often healthy and is what drives journalists and the news organisations they work for; as long as it doesn't lead to corners being cut with regard to fact-checking. Media often cover themselves with phrases such as 'we understand that' or 'it is believed that' or citing 'sources close to this person/that club'...

As a current volunteer press officer I'm less keen on these things when they involve people passing on information that they've been trusted with...

NB my comments above are not related to this particular scoop, largely because I have no knowledge of the circumstances of how it came about.
