But how much are they getting paid ?

I would think for the majority at N1 and def below the kind of money being talked about is not really enough to compensate for sacrifices made elsewhere in their life/careers let alone to be able to make Rugby a career itself - so to basically tell those players that having signed a contract they are at the beck and call of game administrators come what may is a bit rich - squad size is irrelevant OTHER than in the fact the salary cap is per club not per player so a required bigger squad due to more games means less per player

Enough to make them sign a contract. Guesstimates vary from base retainer plus match fee plus win fee plus try bonus plus job plus car plus travel plus stash plus housing (or anything in between).

Modern players demand and get the highest fee they can, hence the movement around the leagues.

The administrators run the club as a business (except those with a sugar daddy) so they need to sweat their assets, literally.

But, as certain National 1 supporters on here pointed out at the time the "cap" was drawn up and released, the sanction for going over the cap is loss of travel contributions... so a few clubs have said "fair enough, we won't have the travel contributions"

The salary cap in N1 is advisory AIUI *not* compulsory. Hence you can have a massive squad on massive wages if you so choose.

keep the faith

Well we know of a Championship side offering a quarter of a million to front row players and six figures to flankers.
Now that may be an outlier.

Certainly rumours of Nat 1 sides offering five figure salaries.

And £500,000 + wage bills - which if you assumed it was split equally, which it wouldn't be, would give a squad of 30 £16k each.

Edited to add, and this is a broader point, in the past 2 seasons (ie since the laughable "cap"), N1 spending has got completely out of control.

Either that or a lot of high profile players have decided to step down to N1 and play for the love of it...

Rumour has it there are at least 4 clubs with wage bills in excess of 500k in Nat 1 this year which in some cases includes jobs in the package

The salary cap in the Premiership is not compulsory either apparently.

I believe it is, however the authorities allow certain clubs to blatantly get away with ignoring it.

Are the waiting for a lesser established club to transgress and then hit them with a big points deduction? We can only wait and see.

That was rather my point!
