Gloucester Rugby has announced four players who, with dual registration, have been loaned to play for Cinderford RFC and join the Foresters 2013/14 squad. Tom Heard, a regular face in Cinderford’s front row, is back as tight head prop and very well versed with the Cinderford brand of rugby. In the forwards pack he is joined by Tom Hicks in the second row, and hooker, Ryan Charles. Reece Boughton comes to Cinderford as scrum half.

Tom Hicks was at Coventry and Moseley over the past couple of seasons. Very tall, I believe he is the tallest player in England? Not seen that much of him didn't pull up any trees, but will be a good national 1 player. Needs to bulk up a bit.

Presumably young Hicks will bulk up if he eats up all his greens at both Gloucester and Cinderford?

One of the (few)benefits of DR - young lads get 2 lots of dinner...

As was suggested elsewhere needs a bit more bulk.

I saw him a couple of times last season, a line-out specialist, not too great in the loose.

A few new faces played for Southend against Barnes on Saturday, 2 ex LS players Frankie Neale played Fullback & James Kellard looked really strong at 7. Tom Gannon from Sarries Academy played FH and a good 2nd Row Max Crawford from Hartpury. Sam Nash, Kiwi I think played Centre and looked a handful.

Weather was awful at Barnes, should be ok for this Saturday when we host Rosslyn Park. We lost a couple of big players at the end of last season so we'll see how it all goes in a couple of weeks.

Good luck to everyone this season.

How did Barnes look?

As I said, terrible weather and it didn't help the forwards out. Could only play on one half of the pitch to start with until the puddles went.

They played 5 25min games with loads of changes.  Barnes Forwards got pushed about in the 1st and last games but they did score a couple of tries from pick and go's but the backs looked good all the way through going forward and scored 1 beautiful try straight though the middle off a planned move. Defensively they looked a bit weak in places with big gains after the hit for the Southend boys. Wingers looked good. Not knowing the Barnes team I can't say if their strongest team played at the same time as Southend's but it was good hard contest.

Back Row Forward Nick Koster arrives on a season long loan from Bath

Full Back Adam D'Arcy joins Bristol after being released from Ulster at the end of last season

I thought we had two complete back rows and a bit, now we probably have 3 different back rows.

But I am glad we have got a specialist 15 in the squad, just need to keep him fit for the first game!

He's fine at 16t 5lbs - he has the rest of his life to live - bulking up for a few years is no real use for the reaming 40/50 years of your post-playing life. let's get real about why we play and how we (mis)treat our bodies. Angry

It depends whether he's happy playing in national 1 or wants to play in the premiership or even international rugby. It's a professional game and as a second row you need a bit of bulk.

None of the information below is official; just hearsay from around the ground. They are all at Sedge though, I just might have a few of the previous clubs mixed up.

Jonny Matthews - Come to us from Otley, has played a bit of England County rugby and looks a very handy player. Brought in to replace the retired R. Oxley. Likes to carry the ball and looks good in the set piece.

George Hymes - Young Chesire lad who is on the books at Sale academy. Supposed to be 19 but I don't believe it, looks more like 30. Really strong player and likes the physical side. Will be one to watch in the future!

Curtis Strong - A local lad who played at Fylde last year. Lives this way and he is pushing for some first team rugby.

Mike Simmons - Came to us from Fylde. Has impressed during Pre-season and this sees him starting alongside Riles for the 3rd time now.

Max Ashcroft - Was a Bath academy player. Don't know too much about him. brought in as cover for the suspended J. Warrington and N. Flynn who has moved on. Looks pretty strong in the scrum though.

Jake Evens - A young scrum half that looks impressive. Likes to get around the pitch and could be a very good player in the future.

Robert Holloway - Don't know much about him but he has been impressive when I've watched him play. Has a very good boot on him.

Billy Fisher - Appeared most of last season for the 2nd team and won Players/player of the year. Would have played more first team games but was not registered in time to do so. Came on as a sub last year in the Lancs cup final against Preston and scored.

Jamie Hodder - Think he might have come From Vale of Lune.

Is Cambridge losing another player to Bedford? Or has he already gone? My very reliable source tells me he is starting for The Blues tomorrow against Sarries......maybe FHLH or Camquin know the answer to this one.....
