Good to see the Pirates updating on Twitter. The rival feeds tell the story so far:

  1. The Scots look a shadow of themselves from previous weeks, and need a huge performance to turn this around #LSLive

FT at the Mennaye Pirates 21 LS 17. Well deserved win for Pirates, much better first half, and up front whole game. Stout defence at the end with LS camped about Pirates line. 👏 👏

Excellent display from the Pirates today - although it got very close towards the end and we had to defend brilliantly to stop what would have been a winning try. LS threw wave after wave of attacks at us, but Pirates held out for a much needed win.

Would have been robbery with violence if we had won today Stalwart. You deserved the win.

That's a disappointing result for LS. We're a bit topsy turvey.  Good enough to beat Welsh and Leeds/Yorkshire away but coughing wins to Moseley and Pirates.

Given the commentary, I'm a bit worried about the LS scrum which was consistently strong last year and the Salmonberrying about with the midfield. The 10, 12, 13 should have been properly established pre season.

I agree, Maidment was a late call off for today. That hurt. I really don't know what we are playing at in the midfield. As you say 10, 12, 13 first pick should have been in place before the off. What do we do - have one pre-season friendly.
Plenty of talent but..... Grove (much as I like ) is not a 10. Not first choice anyway, off the bench perhaps. New centres not allowed a chance to bed in together. It's not far off, but minus marks for pre-season prep. We were totally outplayed today up front, no doubt, and but for superb defence by Pirates might well have sneaked an unmerited win at the end.

The lack of information about squad injuries makes it even harder to assess.

Yup, we started the season with Newton/Grove/Locke at 10/12/13. I thought we looked light for cover in the Centres but fair enough. Yet suddenly, Grove is playing at Stand off.

Is Newton injured? Is Locke? Is Mantella for the matter of that?

We have talented backs but we didn't bed them with a proper pre season (I know Williams and Mantella were injured) and now we are swapping them about all over the shop.

Fairly sure Mantella is injured, but that doesn't explain the decisions inside.
