Ended 22-21 at Headingley. A bit scrappy, ref not the best but probably a fair result overall. Only 900-odd here. End of an era but the players dug in, notably Pete Lu-Huckleberry who got a stinger 10 minutes in but stayed on throughout.

Vale.
That's easy for you to say.

That's sad Albert. I was really hoping people would turn out in their droves today.

Perhaps a complete change of direction is called for? No idea what though.

One of the main arguments by the powers that be here in favour of Sunday play was that it allowed those who followed another club on Saturdays to attend. Maybe they had a point.

Or maybe folk have just run out of enthusiasm.
That's easy for you to say.

That was an argument used at Cov once. It made no appreciable difference in reality, and the Cov club is surrounded by 20+ junior clubs within a small radius.

Most local clubs run juniors/colts on a Sunday so you're not likely to get many from that direction unless they are playing at half-time.

For myself I got fed up being constantly reminded that we were fourteenth fiddle to the Rhinos. It ain't going to be a quick fix, Albert, but you definitely need to look tp build a club that can stand on it's feed a little more instead of existing on hand-outs.

I think Sundays can work for some clubs, but every one has its own individual circumstances. It certainly works well for Pirates, but it never worked for us. If we need to move a match, we would always choose a Friday night now. Funnily enough, Carnegie’s only Friday night match this season was against us ! Seemed to be a good atmosphere, but I done recall the crowd size.

Must be a misprint in The Rugby Paper 2050 for the top two game yesterday, makes the 2872 at G R very respectable.

Yes I saw 5k for the game at the Mad Stad.

Mixed crowd numbers yesterday: just under a thousand at Headingley, just over at Castle Pk. Good turnout at GR, as GJ said. 2,158 at the RAG - 3 more than we managed in Jersey. Unofficial estimate (by Mr & Mrs Islander) of the Cov contingent, based on previous crowds and us having an extra 200 in the marquee, between 500 and 600, but it's never possible to do an exact count. They were good value, however many of them there were!!

Must have been the Southern edition, definitely 2050 in mine, mind you it says there were no sin bins in the Bedford game too !!! Just for good measure from the same source nobody watched the Scottish v Richmond game. Pity they don't report on Br..it, we'd be out by now.Wink

Cant believe you're discussing crowds (mis-use of the word??) of around 1000 in the Championship!!
Level 5 Play-Off game at Luctonians was around that figure - no wonder Level 2 isn't sustainable

It's true that some of the crowd numbers are pretty small, but comparing end of season, often meaningless games with a playoff game is not really like for like. Before we were robbed by the RFU of playoffs in The Championship the attendances for those games would be much bigger.

And Cov brought in 2800 a couple of weeks ago for a 'meaningless' game (if there is such a thing), and likewise Bedford yesterday.
Those figures would increase several-fold if these clubs were to move up a level.
Some clubs at this level could certainly up their game though.

I'm not sure the low crowd figures are the single reason this league is unsustainable. In the prem, not a single club except Exeter managed to turn over a profit last season, despite the large crowds. The problem is under-funding and clubs not spending within their means. It baffles me why there aren't a lot more people showing up to watch Championship rugby, it's a great product.

So you agree that L2 is unsustainable?
