No, Preston got the point they needed so that although Morley could catch them, Hull Ionians couldn't.

? meaning what??

seems a no brainer, with county schedule starting, meaningless games are just that,
(unless the Clubs are in agreement to play them) I presume Tynedale /Blaydon went ahead yesterday as it was a local derby, i.e. relatively cheap travel, and the sponsorship was already in place etc?? (sounds like it was a humdinger of a game!! 10 tries, red cards, yellow cards etc etc!!)
travel costs are huge these days, for instance taking a full team bus from Wharfedale to Cinderford is very costly, especially if the journey has already been made once,

Some games are never meaningless Wink and the two teams will provide most of the players for this week's Northumberland team also.

not sure what you're saying is poor form Mersey. The fact that players are being spared meaningless games stretching into the summer? I'd say it was common sense. Not sure why the games at Launceston and Harrogate this weekend are going ahead. Has news of Launceston's 20-pt fine made it across the Tamar? Maybe they think they are on 59 points and can stay up with a win. Meanwhile back in the real world...

Meaningless games are due to the fact there are too many clubs in the league. Means each year the last 8 weeks of the season that a number of clubs cant be promoted or relegated. Depending on who the to be promoted/relegated teams are due to face in this time this can have a huge effect on final promotion/relegation positions. Solution is to have 14 or even better 12 teams in each league thus every game is important. This would then allow things like the county championship to be played before the end of April when players may actually want to play. Plus they might get a proper summer rest and return enthusiastic to pre-season

Many of the cancelled matches  were due to frost bound grounds that 'wouldn't take a stud'?

Now I wonder if any of the sun baked grounds 'won't take a stud'?

Rather a well-balanced explanation on PG's site of the reasons behind the game at home to Rugby being cancelled.

I suspect Lions were more troubled by lack of player resources through injury and unavailability (witness their game at Westoe last week) than simple funding issues but the writer has made his own view about demands on players clearly and effectively.
