RumbleintheBlundell You have hit the nail on the head when you say 'very sad that a once big club is disappearing into the abyss'. My club (Hull RUFC) were only formed in 1992 but since then we have played against the following clubs which passed us down on the road to lower level rugby. West Hartlepool, Hartlepool Rovers, Northern, New Brighton, Birkenhead Park, Manchester, Percy Park, Gateshead, Rugby Lions, Morley, Bradford and Bingley, Durham City, Halifax, Liverpool St. Helens, Middlesbrough and of course Waterloo. None of those clubs ever complained about their demise in league status and it puzzles me to wonder why Waterloo supporters think they ae something special. One day, in the future, you may rise to your former greatness. In the meantime can I suggest you are, at the moment, nothing special.

I think its fair to say the club have already disappeared into the abyss. Of course, they have no divine right to play at a higher level based on past glories. Why am I bothered? I represented the club for 20 years and many of the past players share the same view as mine as we still socialise together.I think its fair to say the club has a relatively large and passionate following hence the length of the thread and many accept the level the club are at because they weren't around 10 - 15 years ago when there was at least some ambition.

That is a complete fabrication. You may have played 3s but you don't socialise with any past players. |

Elma - give your head a wobble. I played from minis right through to senior rugby so you clearly have no clue - in fact it was over 20 years. I think you will find that I see the past players at least once a month - sharing beers at the football. They are equally embarrassed.

Not sure I understand the concept of past players being embarrassed by the current crop. If they feel strongly about it, surely these legendary figures could offer up some expertise somewhere in the system? If they don't and they're not involved any more then why be embarrassed? I don't understand.

Loo may no longer be mixing it in terms of rugby status on the field, & as Sten has said, most are realistic & have accepted where we are now. My glass is always half full & I rarely look back in anything I've done. I'm really positive about the future at Waterloo, albeit a slow burner, the foundation is being set, with a clear structured plan. It takes time to change, so I'm all for evolution over revolution. Sport is cyclical remember. Rumble is correct by saying its sad, but life is sad at times. I'm glad that this afternoon I can walk down to the memorial ground & watch my team in what will definitely be a competitive game vs Douglas then have a few beers after to hopefully celebrate or drown sorrows. Fair comment ST but today's result hasn't helped. Still few in the mix for both the second spot and third relegation position - string a couple of wins together or indeed lose a couple and the positions change rapidly. As someone pointed out B'burn going well but there is just a lack of consistency throughout-possibly because resources are stretched at this stage of the season?

…..and BP won't be easy next week after one excellent and one creditable draw. Not the easiest of fixtures to come for Loo either. For my part Port need to sort out the problem it appears to have with Warrington.

Sten - sadly, they have no real interest in the club anymore which explains why they watch the football these days on a Saturday.

Let's have it right, Douglas are a very good team & overall deserved the win. But it's could have been so different. Loo were the better side for the majority of the 1st half, but iys the same problem of not finishing the chances created, of which there were several. There's absolutely nothing wrong with playing with a tempo, but their always seems to be a sense of panic in their play, forcing passes unnecessarily, like they're playing with a hand grenade, just calm down &play the phases. The boys played very well but didn't come away with the points that for me were on offer. Then 2nd half was the reverse, Douglas dominated yet we again had some guilt edge chances that weren't finished. Has to be said that it was one of the poorest referees for a long time, baffling decisions for both sides. For me, Loo arent that far off, but IMHO are desperate for a dominant 10.

What's everyone's thoughts for this Saturday?? Given Annies recent form and the W last time they played should provide an interesting outcome. I believe Saints will do the double over loo but that is my opinion but would like to get others opinions on here......

I'm sh*tting myself to be honest mate!
Possibly the least confident I've been all season. Having said all that, if we've trained well and got the lads playing as a team we'll have a good chance. Need a big 5pts |

Even my "glass half full" outlook is beginning to wane ever so slightly. We need our square pegs back in their square holes & we'll be fine, otherwise it could be another one of those years. COYGB

I couldn't make it to our away game at Waterloo but I have seen Anselmians play twice.
Annies seem to be coached well and they play for the full 80 minutes. Unfortunately, despite them being a decent bunch of lads (and a decent set of supporters that I have actually met at the two games) I think they're doomed. Based on knowledge of the characters I've met over a good number of home and away games over the last few years against 'Loo my money would be on them. I can't think of anything more motivating than the predicament they find themselves in (although the same goes for us at Burnage, so...) |
