Well, they obviously do - hence the imposed budgets

See previous post - its not an imposed budget it just disqualifies you from various RFU sources of funding if you choose to ignore it

Rfu rules are quite simple:
1)you can pay a coach(s) what you want
2)at level 6 you are restricted to £10k pa for a player /coach.
3)if clubs infringe that then they lose all rfu benefits including interest free loans and contribution towards travel costs
4)if a club decide they can pay contacted players what they want but they lose that detailed in 3)
The whole issue of payments to players goes on for pages and pages so the above is a brief summary

Good showing from the Loo boys today - some good tries and some decent defence.

Keep building from this, the lads look to have their tails up now

Ncee to see the boys firing again, have thought jack Weare is a 12 well above this level and can not wait to see Lavelle to be back... Personally I think Lavelle will be there difference between Waterloo staying up, the lad is a different class and very much so looking forward to seeing Waterloo get a good few wins now.

A casual observer would have struggled to pick which team was in 2nd spot yesterday. Great all round performance from Loo, result could have gone either way.

I thought we were pretty poor to be honest. If blackburn had brought (bought) a kicker, they would have been out of sight. Well pleased with a point.

And they definitely pay - apparently they have no development at all and just hire players as and when

Can anyone find any fault in my logic here...

If Penrith fail to get any points vs Blackburn, and Stockport get from 5 from De La this weekend, then Waterloo are guaranteed to be safe with a total of:

a) 67pts if Port vs Pen is a 3-3 draw
b) 65pts if it finishes 5-2
c) 68pts if it finishes 2-5

So if we can somehow claim 6pts from our last 2 fixtures, we are definitely safe.

Penrith need something being down on wins & points difference, but who's to say they don't just go & beat Blackburn? Plenty of connotations...I can see POSSIBLE upsets, Annie's beating Warrington, Loo beating Carlisle & Burnage, well who knows. Bonkers league.

I could possibly have seen annies beating Warrington but last weeks withdrawal and the week befores absolute pumping from Broughton make me think their mercs have left and there's nothing there anymore. Need a regroup next season it seems.

But yeah, Penrith could definitely beat Blackburn. As for us beating Carlisle.... Well... I'm saying nothing!

It's also just as likely that we find ourselves 3rd bottom on Saturday evening, assuming Manchester and Warrington win & Burnage pull another shocker.
On another note, is the Grand National going to pose any player shortages? I'm sure many will be going.

Why wouldn’t they?

One of the biggest issues in the game at the moment is hiring and firing mentality.

Whoever is coach just let them carry on

MonkeyBoy - who is to say they should be retained? A club that started with ambition to secure promotion at the start of last season ended up narrowly escaping relegation in the last 40 minutes of the last game. Presumably, each club should have an end of season review and set out its strategy for next season.

I'm not sure if anyone could have done much better to be fair. We recruited well and were very competitive in all games. We had some sort of off-field incident a few weeks in which led to a few key members leaving, but we rallied round and managed to refocus and get some key wins.

Yes we weren't in the promotion race, but neither was anyone else really - apart from Carlisle it was extremely close all season, Blackburn recruited some players mid-season from much higher leagues and they subsequently left the pack and pushed Carlisle all the way.

I genuinely think if (and it's a big if), we can keep the squad we have and maybe add a couple here and there we will be in the hunt next season. With a bit more experience we would have seen a fair few of our games out and been a good chunk of points better off come the end.

Just my opinion, of course.

I've no doubt we'll all be watching closely when next season kicks off - possibly this thread will have reached a 100 pages by then?
