The worst refereeing of the scrum I have seen - and that takes some doing. Tick box mentality with no real knowledge of the scrum and no common sense.

No we had that at Rosslynpark with a so called. champ ref in the middle and a experienced Nat 1 ref on the side line they were shocking but not only at scrum time. Inconsistent at best

OEs had the Sale Barbarians at college meadow today, sharks and England U20s everywhere, watching us smash them for 80mins was a major highlight of the season. I hope they go down and those poor regular first team players and fans find a better club to associate with.

I think you will find most referees have never played in the front row and the nearest they have been is when they are setting it up. When I was an up and coming ref we were constantly trained on the scrum and in particular the front row and I am not sure if they currently do or whether that training is correct. I constantly hear refs talk about the picture they are seeing but they start at the wrong point. If a props feet are not on the same line parallel with his shoulders at initial bind they will never push straight and I have never seen a ref or AR pick this up so it will never be correct. They seem to think the arm bind in more critical than the feet which is wrong.

Why do so many moan about Referees & ARs as long as they are consistant for both sides what's the problem??? It's all part of the game, seeing what you can get away with. Although I did witness one referee blowing up for off-side at kick-off, but he didn't do it again as there would have been little time for rugby....

It is not technically offside, it is an incorrectly taken kick and scrum to the non-kicking side. If the penalty or conversion was completed before time expires, play must restart. So there is time for the scrum, even if time has now expired. Similarly, if the opposition are ahead of the 10m line, the kicking side get to retake the kick, they do NOT get a penalty on the 10m ine. |
