As I said in my original post, they will soon climb however, as they could easily be the other end of the table.  Blues have that exact sequence of games coming up, so I had hoped we got 2 wins on the board, which thankfully we got.

Funny, but close score line and Pirates finished 5 meters from the line before knocking on, but Jersey were worthy winners tonight and I would suggest is that all the Pirates had to offer was pick and drive from the forwards.

Effective? Yes. Match winning? No.

Ironically, the best move of the match was a cross field kick from the Pirates fly half to the busy 14, only for the winger to pass forward in the tackle from the full back. Relief, but also disappointment because it would have been the move of the season so far.

Nevertheless we will take the 4 point win, but probably should have been 5.

Hi Brizzer

Can you elaborate on why you feel it should have been 5 points please? Not seen or heard the commentary so intrigued to hear your thoughts.

Thanks in advance

Don't get me wrong, the Pirates put up some determined defense, but ever time we built pressure we managed to let them off the hook. There are other sides in this league who would have converted at least one of the opportunities.
Nevertheless, this side is still gelling and is full of ability, so hopefully that ruthlessness will come.

The radio commentators I listened to felt CP dominated the second half and were unlucky not to win, only a knock on on Jersey's line at the end preventing them from doing so.

Yes, that is how the game ended and they probably should have scored, but Jersey should have been out of sight well before then IMHO.
I don't think that a delayed flight helped their cause mind you.

A classic example of Jersey letting Pirates off the hook was late in the first half when Jersey were given a penalty in front of the Pirates posts and five metres out. Pirates were down to 14 at that point and Jersey elected to take a scrum which was probably a good idea with the Pirates centre binding on as stand in flanker. Jersey had a man advantage on both sides and the situation screamed out for the 8 or 9 to pass the ball out wide but instead they kept the ball in the scrum and the referee (who had a cracking game IMO) properly turned the ball over to Pirates. Jersey did eventually score but left two or three clear chances unscored last night. Both sides defence was brilliant last night.

The Pirates could have sneaked it with some full-on pressure at the end - they were disappointed at their line out, pleased by the commitment/physicality but didn't want to make a big deal of the delays - they were at the ground shortly before 7pm so had a little over an hour to prepare - not much less than a standard warm-up.

Reds delighted with the win with a new squad albeit slight disappointment not to push on in the second half, get the 4th try and be out of range by the end, rather than backs-to-wall.

Match report for anyone interested - http://bit.ly/2w0batr

Thank you for the update brizzer, I eventually got to read the reports as well which made it a tad clearer. I suppose it all down to keeping your hands on the ball at the critical points in the game.

Totally and by making the correct decisions like kicking through when there was a 2 man overlap outside you. Still, we learn by our mistakes.
