It is almost that time and hopefully we are going to see one of the most open World Cups, with probably 7 or 8 teams with a chance of winning if they get it right. I have had to leave a few off but if any of them win I will be waking up in an alternate universeWink

I have left the poll open until after the first round as with NZ v SA, Argentina v France and Ireland v Scotland this weekend, a lot will depend on round one

Ask Rob Howley - he seems pretty confident on one particular team!!

Bit pointless really. Aren’t England favourites to bring it home before any tournament? 😳

I'm amazed that people would pick South Africa over New Zealand. Yes NZ have shown vulnerability recently but they have a team that knows how to win on the biggest occasion. Just look what they did to Australia after they had lost to them.

I would love England to win it...but I see too much defensive vulnerability. The 2003 team was so solid. You backed them at any point to keep out the opposition. I don't see this from the 2019 team.

Absolutely.
England are the best team in the world, with Billy and Maro being the best players in the world.

What is of more interest is just how far Japan can progress; they've been playing since 1863 !!

After the recent game cancellations who knows.  In fact does anybody know the rules if any of the QF's or semi finals are called off due to weather.  I thought the RFU were the ultimate !!!!!!!!!!! but World Rugby are almost as bad,  have a friend who has gone out at silly money and his first England game is cancelled .

I do feel sorry for the fans for the cancellations of course the weather could not be helped and safety is paramount on and off the pitch. I would of thought they may of played the games the next day but I guess it is dictated by TV but it will give the likes of England and France some extra rest days ahead of the QF which may not go down to well with their opponents!

I don't think it should cause too much of an issue in terms of rest days.

South Africa's last game was a stroll against Namibia and Wales can play a mostly 2nd team against Uruguay

I think you are missing the point CF. England go through as top of the group France don't get that opportunity. Scotland may be eliminated and Ireland don't get the opportunity to go top of their group and avoid the All Blacks.
But the main thing is that fans who have flown out there to watch England v France come home seeing nothing.
As Martin Samuel said in Daily Mail This is the Typhoon season in Japan. Nobody disagrees with them having World Cup
They have been excellent hosts.
But maybe not in Typhoon Season

Agreed its the madness of granting the event to Japan and playing it in the hurricane season , we know its all about the money but this could end up being the PR disaster of all time. That's based on more Typhoons causing a semi final to be delayed or even the final being cancelled or put back . Am sure there will be a lot of very annoyed fans who have spent thousands of pounds , euros etc and don't see any matches and as its weather elated am not sure insurance will cover the cost

The things about this typhoon is that it's one of those once-in-a-lifetime category storms.  Everyone knew it was typhoon season, but this one is way off the scale.

If you google Japan Metrological Agency over the years it does not look good.

No..I completely agree with all that. From what I've heard the power and scale of the typhoon is mostly unprecedented at this time of year for Japan.

BUT it's still a massive shame for the fans and some of the teams that are affected. I'm surprised they can't move the teams elsewhere, even playing in a closed stadium to keep the integrity of the tournament.

Thanks Tulip have done some googling and according to the Japanese web sites the Typhoons get worse towards the end of the season i.e October and this one is the 16th this year. Only 3 or 4 make landfall but they all seem to shut down airports , have power cuts and fatalities . Really hope this is the last and it does not cause any more disruption but I still think its been madness to have the main showcase for Rugby for the next 4 years in Japan at this time of year.  Fully support Japan but surely they could have managed a better time

As silly as hosting a cricket world cup during an English summer.  Just look at how people are still talking about the cancelled group games and how that effected some teams qualification chances.  Completely overshadowed the final.Wink

Lets face it, all businesses have contingency plans for interruptions of business so the organisers have clearly failed in this instance.
