I heard on the grapevine that a fair number of the litchfield 1sts (even internationals)  are going to stay with the club anyway and just play wherever they are put. They like the setup and enjoy each others company

Good on the girls, the RFU nepotism is an embarrassment. The fact they let Aylesford Bulls (Harlequins money) in shows the stupidity of the tender system. Their facilities are non existent compared to Lichfield.

Indeed an excellent thing to hear. I think because in essence nothing will change  anyway beyond not being the top league and no promotion. Though I didn't think Harlequins buying their way in via Aylesford had anything to do with the RFU, I thought it was a private deal where the big club threw money at the small club to get their women's team that they had taken years of struggle to work their way up to the top league.

Did they not say Lichfield did not have good enough facilities? Yet Aylesford are acceptable, as I eluded it is I suspect as they have the name of Harlequins and the backing.

I agree whole heartedly with the Super League idea and ring fencing it for two seasons to allow establishment and investment from sponsors btw.

Top Flight Women's Rugby returns to Lancashire.

Lancashire will be represented in the new RFU Women’s Super rugby competition that has been recently announced by the RFU.

Firwood Waterloo Ladies application for a coveted position in the new league structure was successful. The bid that was endorsed by Lancashire will see the top flight of women’s rugby once again being played in our county. The new competition, which is receiving significant funding from the RFU, will increase the amount of investment in teams and development of players. The knock-on effect will see a greater emphasis on partnerships with local teams and youth clubs to ensure there is a clear pathway for potential England players and future Red Roses.

David Herriman, Lancashire County Chairman, said:

“This is great news for Firwood Waterloo, the County and rugby as a whole. For too long our female players have had to leave the County and the North West region to challenge themselves at the highest level of rugby. “Lancashire and Firwood Waterloo has a long tradition of producing international players, which has continued with Holly Aichinson debuting for England 7s at the USA World Series, Charlie WilHuckleberry debuting for England U20s Women’s and Sam Moore for the U18s. All have previously played for Lancashire and are former or current players of Firwood Waterloo. “This is an exciting time for women and girls rugby and Lancashire is looking forward to continuing to play its part in building and growing rugby within the county.”

Corinne Allmark, Firwood Waterloo Ladies Chair, said:

“We are extremely grateful for the active support that Lancashire County has given us through the process and their endorsement of Firwood Waterloo Ladies as one of the 10 teams offered a place in the new prestigious women’s competition. “As a County Lancashire has always been a leader in supporting and advocating women and girls rugby. We are looking forward to working even closer with them in the future to help take the game to the next level and continue to grow our great sport and the number of fans of women’s rugby in the region.”

Presumably Aylesbury being acquired by Quins means they can play at the Stoop.

Haha Pen15. Interesting assumption however untrue. The women's RFU are taking into account any potential fixture clashes with 1st xv fixtures. They did however ask us to alert them to any potential fixture clashes before they had given us either set of fixtures (clearly impossible and typical RFU incompetence!). So it looks like the second xv will be at hall rd whilst the women kick off at 3pm at blundellsands. Only possible amendment to this is if sky decide to show a Waterloo women's fixture on the same weekend as a potential fixture clashes. In that case then I'm sure the club and both men's and women's RFU will come to some agreement. In short, if the left hand of the RFU speak to the right hand there won't be an issue.

If your depending on the RFU don't hold your breath.I take it the ladies would have priority in the event of a clash?

In the unlikely event that is the case I'm sure we would take the guidance of the RFU. Until it's an issue I don't think it needs random speculations on an open forum however you will be the first to find out if a decision needs to be made.

The ladies are the highest ranked team at the club now & have had to commit to the new guidelines. Let's hope like Elma said that such an event never transpires. I can't wait to watch the girls play against the top players BTW.
